Batang, Kilaswarta.com -- Nestle Indonesia has made a significant investment in Indonesia’s industrial sector by allocating $220 million for the construction of a new factory in the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate, located in Central Java Province. The company also plans to expand the capacity of three of its existing factories across the country.

Sufintri Rahayu, Nestle Indonesia’s Corporate Affairs Director, announced the initiative in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. “This year, we committed an additional investment of $220 million for the construction of our new factory in Batang, named the Bandaraya factory, which is expected to begin operations next year,” Rahayu said.

The Bandaraya factory will focus on producing ready-to-drink (RTD) products, adding to the company's existing lineup of beverages in Indonesia.

Continued Commitment to Indonesia's Market

This is not the first major investment by Nestle Indonesia in recent years. Back in 2019, the company invested $100 million to enhance the production capacity of three of its existing facilities. These factories are located in Karawang, West Java; Bandar Lampung; and Kejayan, East Java.

Despite challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Nestle managed to maintain 100 percent operational capacity at all its facilities, ensuring a consistent supply of food and beverage products to the Indonesian market. This resilience highlights the company's dedication to meeting consumer demand even in the face of global disruptions.

Collaboration with Local Farmers

In addition to expanding its production capacity, Nestle Indonesia has also strengthened its partnerships with local farmers. The company collaborates with approximately 26,000 dairy farmers across Indonesia to secure fresh milk for its products. Annually, Nestle purchases fresh milk from farmers in East Java worth $120 million.

Beyond dairy, Nestle has established partnerships with 20,000 coffee farmers in Lampung. These partnerships enable the company to source coffee beans for various products, contributing an additional $80 million annually to Indonesia's agricultural sector.

Supporting Sustainable Agriculture

Nestle collaboration with local farmers is not merely transactional. The company has been actively involved in supporting sustainable agricultural practices and improving the livelihoods of its farmer partners. Through training programs and technical assistance, Nestlé ensures that the farmers can meet high-quality standards while achieving better yields.

The company's commitment to sustainability aligns with global efforts to create a more environmentally friendly and socially responsible supply chain. By sourcing raw materials locally, Nestle reduces its carbon footprint and supports the economic development of rural communities.

A Boost to Central Java’s Economy

The decision to build the Bandaraya factory in the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate underscores Nestlé’s confidence in Central Java as a strategic location for its operations. The new factory is expected to generate significant economic benefits for the region, including job creation and increased business opportunities for local suppliers.

The Batang Integrated Industrial Estate itself has been gaining attention as a hub for investment in Indonesia. With its modern infrastructure and strategic location, the estate provides an ideal environment for multinational corporations like Nestlé to expand their operations.

Nestlé’s Growing Presence in Indonesia

Nestlé has been a key player in Indonesia's food and beverage industry for decades. The company’s continued investment in the country reflects its belief in the potential of the Indonesian market. With a population of over 270 million people and a growing middle class, Indonesia offers immense opportunities for consumer-focused companies.

By increasing its production capacity and launching new facilities, Nestlé aims to meet the rising demand for its products while contributing to the nation's economic growth. The company’s diverse product portfolio, which includes dairy, coffee, and ready-to-drink beverages, ensures it remains a favorite among Indonesian consumers.

Looking Ahead

As the Bandaraya factory nears completion, it marks another milestone in Nestlé's journey in Indonesia. The company’s investments not only highlight its confidence in the Indonesian economy but also reinforce its commitment to sustainable growth and local partnerships.

With its robust supply chain, strong relationships with farmers, and unwavering focus on quality, Nestlé is well-positioned to continue thriving in the Indonesian market. The Bandaraya factory, once operational, is expected to further solidify the company’s presence in the region while driving economic development in Central Java.

Through initiatives like these, Nestlé demonstrates that global corporations can play a vital role in supporting local economies and fostering sustainable growth, creating a win-win scenario for both the company and the communities it serves. (*)
